VIENĪBAS HOUSE
We spent the winters in our Riga house on Vienības gatve. In my father’s study, there were large bookcases lining all the walls, and in the middle of the room — set back to back — there were four more. By the window stood a writing desk, and above the door hung a large photograph of Senīte, my father’s grandmother. Mother said that in the evenings, when my father left the study, he always gave Senīte a little wave.
